On January 26, 2018, Davenport Police were called to the 1300 block of Warren Street and found that 17 year old Angel Herrera had been shot. He was transported to the hospital where he died. On Wednesday June 27, Angel would have turned 18 years old. Angel’s family deserves to see justice. COLD CASE MISSING PERSON JERRY WOLKING
October 18, 2017
Today, October 18, 2017, marks the 27th anniversary of the disappearance of Jerry A. Wolking, a 52 year old Moline resident.
Jerry Wolking was last seen leaving the residence of his girlfriend in Rock Island around 10:45 PM en route to his Moline residence.
Evidence gathered in 1990 showed that Mr. Wolking had made it back to his residence during the late night hours on October 18th, 1990 but failed to show up to work at John Deere the next day.
On October 21st, 1990, Mr. Wolking’s vehicle a blue/silver 1988 Chevrolet Suburban was located in long term parking at the Quad City Airport.
Moline officers located blood stains in Mr. Wolking’s vehicle and had mud stuck in the tires and under carriage. During a cold case review in 2013, with the assistance of the University of North Texas the blood stains were identified as belonging to Mr. Wolking.
Evidence shows that Mr. Wolking was likely involved in an argument near his residence and then struck by his own vehicle. The suspect then placed Mr. Wolking into the rear of the Chevrolet Suburban and took him to an unknown location, as Mr. Wolking has not been seen since that date.
During the cold case review, several new witnesses came forward and advised Mr. Wolking was fearful of his girlfriend’s estranged husband, confiding in family members and co-workers that he was afraid he would be harmed by him.
In 2013, witnesses came forward and advised they had observed a vehicle they believed to be Mr. Wolking’s 1988 Chevrolet Suburban stuck in the mud in the early morning hours of October 19th, 1990. The witness observed the vehicle in a wooded area near the Poplar Grove addition in Moline, which is just east of Green Valley softball complex.
In 2013, with the assistance of the Augustana College Geology Department student Grant Wick and Dr. Michael Wolf, forensic testing was completed on the dirt and grass located on Mr. Wolking’s vehicle in 1990. The testing compared that to samples of dirt and grass from the Poplar Grove area and geologically they were similar.
In 2013, the Moline Police Department with the assistance of Canine Search Solutions out of Wisconsin conducted a search of the area where Mr. Wolking’s vehicle was believed to be observed. The search of the area did not find anything of evidentiary value related to Mr. Wolking.
The Moline Police Department is asking individuals with information regarding Mr. Wolking’s disappearance to come forward and put this case to rest for Mr. Wolking’s family.

FAMILY SEEKING ANSWERS IN THIS COLD CASE HIT AND RAN FATALITY - 2003-004349

On August 3, 2003 at about 1:45 a.m. Shannon Williams, Age 29, was walking in the westbound lanes of Illinois Route 5 in East Moline when he was struck by an unknown passenger car, described as a white, early 90`s model sedan; possibly an Impala, Celebrity, LeSabre, Dynasty or Electra that has a square, boxy body style. The car then fled the scene westbound on Route 5. Bystanders came from Two River`s Tavern and rendered first aid to Williams, who was found lying on the north side of the westbound lanes. Another bystander attempted to follow the suspect vehicle, but lost it in traffic somewhere near Barstow Road. Williams was transported to Illini Hospital by ambulance, and was later transferred to Trinity West Medical Center, where died. The public’s help is needed to solve this 15 year old cold case. 21 YEAR OLD MYSTERY STILL UNSOLVED

On Monday, August 21, 2017 a total solar eclipse will cast a shadow over the Quad Cities, but that shadow will be brief compared to the much larger shadow that’s been cast over the Quad Cities for the last twenty one years.
Twenty one years ago, on August 21, 1996, eleven year old Trudy Appleby was last seen near her residence, getting into the passenger side of an older model, gray colored vehicle with an unknown male.
Over the course of the last twenty one years, thousands of leads have come into the Moline Police Department and thousands of interviews have been conducted.
The Moline Police Department has been informed that on the days leading up to August 21, 1996, Trudy Appleby requested to go swimming with a friend who resided on Campbell’s Island in East Moline. Trudy’s father did not allow her to go swimming, but phone records show she may have planned to go ahead with her swimming plans.
A witness observed William “Ed” Smith in a similar vehicle near Smith’s residence in East Moline on Campbell’s Island in the late morning hours on August 21, 1996.
The witness observed a younger female in the passenger seat of that vehicle and believed that person to be Trudy Appleby who was personally known by the witness. The vehicle passed within a couple feet of the witness. Trudy Appleby’s whereabouts are unknown after the vehicle drove by, and no other witnesses have come forward with information on any further sightings.
Information obtained from the investigation showed that William “Ed” Smith often traveled to the area of Blackbird Island or Dynamite Island, which are only accessible by boat and are on the northern edge of Campbell’s Island.
The investigation has shown that Smith had access to a vehicle similar to the one that was described as having picked up Trudy on the morning of August 21, 1996. Leads from the investigation show that particular vehicle may have been scrapped within a short time of Trudy’s disappearance.
The Moline Police Department is requesting the community’s assistance regarding any suspicious activity observed on Campbell’s Island, on the waterways surrounding Campbell’s Island, the boat launch at Empire Park in East Moline and the Mississippi River islands of Black Bird Island and Dynamite Island on or around the date of August 21, 1996.
The Moline Police Department knows that William “Ed” Smith died on December 23, 2014 having never admitted knowledge regarding the disappearance of Trudy Appleby. Information from the investigation shows William “Ed” Smith may have been the last person known to be seen with Trudy Appleby prior to her disappearance. Information regarding his activities the date of August 21, 1996 may lead to further information about Trudy Appleby’s disappearance.
The Moline Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding those events on that day and the days immediately following to come forward and help bring justice for Trudy Appleby. Please do not assume that we know what you may know and no information is insignificant.
The family of Trudy Appleby along with Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities is offering a $10,000 reward for information regarding the disappearance of Trudy Appleby or any information related to the above statement that will lead to a resolution in this case.
